Carver Jones, Hereford : Solicitor who “duped business partner” is struck off as she escapes with fine

John Allan Jones and Lucinda Jane Rosemary Rowberry, partners in the now defunct Hereford firm Carver Jones, were sanctioned by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal in a decision published on 12th June 2017.

Before the closure of the firm, in October 2015, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) began an investigation into Carver Jones following "concerns regarding compliance" with the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR). The SRA intervened into the firm, which had been closed for almost six months, in June 2016.

Mr.Jones was accused of a long list of over 30 rule breaches, including dishonesty, failing to act with integrity, misleading an SRA investigator, and charging a client "an amount which he knew to be in excess of the amount which was properly due".

Ms.Rowberry answered "more than 20" charges including an allegation of failure to safeguard clients' money when she carried £21k in client cash from the bank to the office in her "capacious" handbag.

Mr.Jones, whose antics resulted in the SRA compensation fund paying out around £170,000, was struck off as a solicitor. Ms.Rowberry, who had not been accused of dishonesty, received a reduced fine of £5,000.
