Legal challenges to solicitors' bills seem set to increase

An interesting comment piece from the New Law Journal in October referencing some of our cases, written by Richard Langley, Hon Treasurer of the London Solicitors Litigation Association and a partner at Bircham Dyson Bell LLP.

From our perspective, one of the things that clients say to us most often is that, until they came across us, they simply did not realise that their rights to challenge their own solicitors' fees existed. Somehow, despite it being on the statute books since Victorian times, the right has been allowed to descend to a footnote in small print on page 8 of the "client care letter".  Publication by solicitors of price comparison information and likely timescales (which will be required from 1st December) is all very well, but is of little use if clients are not fully aware of their rights in the event that something goes wrong.
